A suspected drunk driver crashed into a Mission Viejo home early Sunday, killing a resident who was apparently sleeping in his bed at the time, authorities said.
Deputies were dispatched to the scene of the crash in the 26000 block of Pacato Drive shortly after 3 a.m., said Lt. Jerry Carlsen, of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
[Updated, 12:10 p.m.: Pacato Drive is a sharply curving street in a neighborhood of single-family homes adjacent to a park and an elementary school. An earlier sheriff’s report erroneously located the crash on nearby Carrillo Drive.]
The suspect’s car, a late-model Cadillac, plowed through the victim’s bedroom, Carlsen said. Another male resident, in a different part of the house, was not injured, Carlsen said.
The names of the victim and driver weren’t immediately released. The motorist was arrested at the scene.
