Tujunga brush fire contained after threatening homes

A brush fire that sprang up in the Blanchard Canyon area of Tujunga on Tuesday morning quickly grew to four acres, threatening some homes, before firefighters brought it under control, authorities said.
Firefighters were called to the 10200 block of North Mahogany Trail about 7:40 a.m. to battle a brush fire that had burned a quarter-acre and was moving uphill. By 8:07 a.m., the fire grew to 1.5 acres and at 8:40, the fire had consumed four acres, officials said.
Video from TV news helicopters showed smoke from the fire drifting near several hillside homes. Three homes were in danger at one point, the LAFD said. Spokesman Brian Humphrey could not provide information about how close the flames were to residences or whether more could be threatened.
The LAFD battled the flames using aircraft and fire engines, with assistance from the Glendale Fire Department. There were no evacuations ordered and no injuries reported.
Firefighters will remain on the scene to monitor hot spots, the LAFD said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
