Reader Photo: Water in the dry state

In drought-stricken California, any sign of rain can bring an abundance of joy.
Stan Paul was pleasantly surprised earlier this month to wake up and see his neighborhood in Riverside glistening with water after an overnight shower. He embarked on a morning “rain walk” with his daughter -- who enjoys cool, damp weather -- when he spotted the lone leaf in the middle of the sidewalk.
What caught his eye about that particular leaf was its “intricate detail” and the colors that surfaced from the surrounding water on the sidewalk.
“After such a dry stretch, it’s a nice small memory of a cool after-the-rain morning walk in November,” he said.
Paul made this image using an iPhone 4S on Nov. 1.
