Carl Braun
Led Knicks in scoring
Carl Braun, 82, a pro basketball player who was chosen for five consecutive NBA All-Star games as a member of the New York Knicks and remains the team’s fifth leading scorer, died Wednesday in Florida of natural causes, the Knicks announced.
A 6-foot-5, 180-pound guard-forward, Braun was an All-Star from 1953 to 1957 -- he missed the 1956 game because of injury -- and retired as the team’s scoring leader with 10,449 points.
Braun is still in fifth place on the Knicks’ all-time scoring list behind Patrick Ewing, Walt Frazier, Willis Reed and Allan Houston.
Born Sept. 25, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y., Braun played college ball at Colgate University.
He sat out the 1950-51 and 1951-52 seasons while serving in the military.
Braun spent two seasons as the Knicks’ player/coach before ending his 13-season career in 1961-62 with the NBA champion Boston Celtics.
