The Angels baseball team recognized Laguna Beach motor Officer Matt Gregg and other Orange County police agency members at the Law Enforcement Appreciation Night on June 26 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.
The Laguna Beach Police Employees Assn. board selected Gregg, the department’s only motor officer, for the Top Cop Award based on “his incredible work ethic and professionalism,” according to a news release.
Gregg, who has been with the Laguna Beach Police Department for five years, handles the majority of the city’s traffic problems.
“The purpose of the Top Cop Award is to publicly recognize an officer that has shown excellent dedication to the department and quality performance for the community,” Sgt. Tim Kleiser wrote in an email, citing information from the police association’s board.
“Over the past year, [Gregg] has made himself available to assist the department and co-workers with countless requests for service and overtime, above and beyond regular expectation,” the board said.
Laguna’s previous honorees were Cpl. Jason Farris in 2014 and Det. David Gensemer in 2010 and 2011.
