Dodgers play ping-pong and Andre Ethier crowned chopsticks king

PHOENIX – With their first Cactus League game not scheduled until Saturday, the Dodgers are finding different ways to amuse themselves.
A double-elimination doubles ping-pong tournament started on Wednesday, with the team of nonroster relievers Peter Moylan and Mark Lowe defeating Carl Crawford and Tony Gwynn Jr. in straight sets. Later, tournament organizer Clayton Kershaw and Shawn Tolleson beat A.J. Ellis and Mark Ellis.
Earlier in the day, Andre Ethier overtook Hyun-Jin Ryu as the chopsticks competition leader. The game consists of using chopsticks to move balls from one fish tank to another.
Ethier beat Ryu’s mark by one point and celebrated by jumping on top of a desk in the media relations’ office. The competition was filmed by the Dodgers’ video department and will be shown during games at Dodger Stadium this season.
“That’s all I do in L.A., eat sushi and Korean barbecue,” Ethier said.
Ethier said he told Ryu that he broke his record.
Ethier added jokingly, “He’s disappointed. He feels like he let down all of the Korean population in L.A. I told him I learned how to use chopsticks just two months ago.”
