Long Beach Poly (10-1) at Encino Crespi (9-1), 7:30 p.m.: Crespi’s rushing attack, led by Jalen Starks and T.J. Brumfield, has been so effective that the Celts have passed only 14 times in their last three games. Poly, led by quarterback Josh Love, features a no-huddle offense and lots of talented athletes. Love has passed for 2,683 yards and 35 touchdowns. It all comes down to whether Poly’s defense is able to stop Crespi from controlling the clock and the game. The pick: Crespi.
Crenshaw (8-3) at Carson (9-2), 7 p.m.: Crenshaw didn’t like being seeded No. 5 in the City Section Division I playoffs. This quarterfinal game should answer some questions. No. 4 Carson is a physical team that can run or pass. Jabari Minix, a senior receiver-defensive back, is having an MVP season. Crenshaw is loaded with talented young players, but will they be ready to come through in a pressure-filled road game? The pick: Crenshaw.
