The future looks bright for former Aliso Niguel pitcher Kyle Molnar and former Grace Brethren pitcher Easton Lucas, both of whom are playing this summer in the West Coast League for the Walla Walla Sweets.
Pitching Coach Jim Ozella, who’s the head coach at Hart High, said he has been impressed with both this summer.
“He’s going to be a heck of a pitcher,” Ozella said of Lucas, who’s headed to Pepperdine. “He’s going to be a serious pitcher.”
Ozella said Lucas’ fastball touched 90 mph.
The UCLA-bound Molnar threw five shutout innings in a recent start and has been hitting 91 and 92 mph on the radar gun.
“He’s starting to really become a dominant strike thrower,” Ozella said.
Walla Walla’s head coach is Frank Mutz, head coach at Chaminade.
Ozella’s Hart team is playing on Saturday in the VIBL championship game at Birmingham against Woodland Hills West. Pitching coach Kyle Boggio has been running the team while Ozella is in Washington.
