Baseball: Marcus Alvarado is new Kennedy coach

Marcus Alvarado, a former Granada Hills Kennedy baseball player who is the son of former head coach Manny Alvarado, has been hired to take over the program. He had been head coach at Arleta.
He coached at Kennedy from 2003 to 2012.
“This is my dream job,” Alvarado said. “Kennedy baseball has been part of me my whole life. It’s more than a program. It’s family.”
Alvarado’s father was removed as coach in the fall of 2012 after a dispute with the Kennedy adminstration and Los Angeles Unified School District. He coached as an assistant last season at Sierra Canyon.
Andy Rodriguez took over for Manny Alvarado and directed the Golden Cougars for three seasons before resigning.
Kennedy won the Valley Mission League championship last season. One bit of good news is that Kennedy will have a third Rodriguez brother, Omar, a freshman, in the program. Oldest brother Nick was an All-City shortstop and another brother, Estevan, was the Valley Mission League player of the year.
