Baseball: Mater Dei’s next freshman standout
- Share via
Burt Call, the Mater Dei baseball coach, always gets a phone call from me at this time of the year asking who’s going to be his next top freshman player to make an impact on varsity.
In the last few years, he’s been right on. There was Jeremy Martinez, Brandon Perez, Josh Stephen, David Clawson and last season, Nick Pratto. Each player went on to make a college commitment.
So who’s this year’s impact freshman going to be?
It’s outfielder Grant Burton, who has lots of speed and power hitting skills. He’s 6 feet, 170 pounds.
Another freshman who could see action is John Jackson, a middle infielder.
But when Call talks, people should listen, and Burton is the player to watch as a freshman.
