Hunter Greene, Chris Collins are impressive

Hold off on those predictions that Alemany is the clear favorite to win the Mission League in baseball this spring. Sherman Oaks Notre Dame might have something to say about that.
On the day after Thanksgiving, the Knights played defending City Section Division I champion Birmingham on Friday morning as part of a winter tournament, and the stars were very impressive for Notre Dame in a 9-2 victory.
There was sophomore Hunter Greene, a UCLA commit, ripping a two-run double and making a defensive gem at shortstop. There was UCLA-bound Jake Hirabayashi smashing an RBI double. There was San Diego State-bound Chris Collins throwing four shutout innings. There was Joe Pace hitting a home run and getting a single.
Of course, Birmingham pitchers were a little hand tied. They were not allowed to throw curveballs. It’s November, after all. But Notre Dame sure has enough talent to be a major factor in the always tough Mission League.
In another tournament game, Harvard-Westlake defeated West Ranch, 3-2, behind Cameron Deere, who had three hits and allowed one run in three innings pitching.
In the Moorpark College tournament, Chatsworth defeated Chaminade behind sophomore Tommy Palomera, who had three hits.
