Boys’ basketball: Harvard-Westlake to try out two point guards
- Share via
The development of junior guard Alex Copeland over the summer is causing Harvard-Westlake Coach Greg Hilliard to allow Copeland and senior Mike Sheng to share point guard duties.
“They both have their strengths,” Hilliard said.
Sheng is considered a better shooter, so if Copeland can handle the ball well, Sheng could get more scoring opportunities.
Copeland, though, was the talk of the summer for Harvard-Westlake.
“He’s had the most improvement of any player over the summer,” Hilliard said. “He’s a different player.”
It remains to be seen whether Harvard-Westlake can knock off Mission League powers Loyola, Chaminade and Crespi, but the Wolverines certainly aren’t hurting for talent. Besides Copeland and Sheng, 6-foot-6 Derick Newton is back for his senior year.
“We get the luxury to surprise somebody if they take us lightly,” Hilliard said.
