Boys’ basketball: Notre Dame’s Chibueze Jacobs has learned he’s not going into boxing

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame won’t have standout 6-foot-4 senior Chibueze Jacobs available for tonight’s game against St. Francis.
He’s resting his swollen hand after his attempt at demonstrating his boxing technique failed miserably.
Last week, after a 58-55 loss to Chaminade in which Jacobs scored the potential game-winning basket that was called off because of an offensive foul, Jacobs took out his frustration in the locker room by hitting the wall with his fist.
The good news is nothing was broken, Coach Vince Oliver said. The bad news is that Jacobs needs a little time to get the swelling down.
As for whether boxing or basketball beckons, Oliver said, “Boxing is not in his future.”
