Cross country: Palisades’ Marissa Williams sets course record at City Section finals

Marissa Williams of Palisades left fans and competitors alike in awe on Saturday morning, setting a course and City Section record of 16:33.11 in winning her third consecutive City Section Division I girls’ cross country individual title at Pierce College.
Her time was more than two minutes faster than second-place Beckie Alch of Taft. She helped Palisades win the team title with 56 points. San Pedro was second with 76.
In Division I boys, El Camino Real won the team title and junior Paul Luevano of Venice won the individual title in 15:01.55.
In Division II boys, Even Negash of Los Angeles won in 15:25.71. Manual Arts won the team title.
In Division II girls, Danielle Elias of Panorama took the individual title in 20:52.82. Valley Academy of Arts and Sciences won the team title.
In Division III boys, Fernando Chavez of USC CAE won in 17:29.35. Harbor Teacher won the boys’ title.
In Division III girls, Vanessa Moreno of Academia Avance won in 19:48.60. USC CAE won the girls’ title.
The top teams and competitors advance to next weekend’s state championships in Fresno.
