Football: Garfield vs. South Gate; Adam Polanco vs. Miguel Guerra

As if Garfield (7-2, 5-0) playing South Gate (8-1, 5-0) wasn’t a big enough game to determine the Eastern League title on Friday night at Garfield, the matchup at quarterback between sophomore Adam Polanco and senior Miguel Guerra is adding to the excitement.
Polanco is coming off the best game of his high school career when he completed 11 of 13 passes for 164 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 96 yards and two touchdowns in a 39-14 win over Roosevelt.
Guerra, a senior, has passed for 2,374 yards and 25 touchdowns and run for 1,000 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Both quarterbacks wear No. 5.
“It’s almost like playing against Polanco,” Garfield Coach Lorenzo Hernandez said. “I think it’s going to be a great matchup.”
