Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies, 7-1

Dodgers 7, Colorado 1

AT THE PLATE: First baseman Jerry Sands hit a three-run home run and a triple, and outfielder Xavier Paul homered too, as the Dodgers scored a spring-high seven runs. Third baseman Casey Blake, who went 0 for 2, has one hit and four strikeouts in nine spring at-bats.

ON THE MOUND: In his first spring start, Ted Lilly gave up one run over 3 1/3 innings. Relievers Mike MacDougal, Blake Hawksworth, Tim Redding and Kenley Jansen held the Rockies scoreless over the final 5 2/3 innings. Redding, pitching himself into consideration as a swingman, has pitched eight innings this spring without giving up a run.

EXTRA BASES: Catcher Rod Barajas made a spectacular play, scrambling from behind the plate to retrieve a bunt and throw out the speedy Willy Taveras at first base. Barajas later threw out Taveras trying to steal. The Dodgers stole two more bases — by Tony Gwynn Jr. and Eugenio Velez — giving them 16 steals in 18 attempts this spring.
