Graeme McDowell shoots 66, leads World Challenge after two rounds

Former U.S. Open winner Graeme McDowell fired a six-under-par 66 to lead the field after two rounds Friday at the World Challenge golf tournament in Thousand Oaks.
McDowell, a Northern Ireland native who won the event in 2010 in a playoff with tournament host Tiger Woods, was three shots ahead of Jim Furyk, Keegan Bradley and Bo Van Pelt.
“I actually putted a little better today . . . managed to make a few,” McDowell said.
Furyk also is a former World Challenge winner, having captured the 18-player tournament in 2009. He shot a three-under 69 on Friday at Sherwood Country Club, where the field was peppered with intermittent rain showers.
Woods, whose foundation is the beneficiary of the tournament’s proceeds, was four shots behind McDowell after also shooting a 69.
“I certainly hit the ball a lot better than I did yesterday,” Woods said.
First-round leader Nick Watney made bogeys at the 16th and 18th holes for a one-over 73, dropping him into a tie with Rickie Fowler at four under par for the tournament. Fowler shot a five-under 67.
