The Lakers have sent rookie guard Darius Johnson-Odom to the D-Fenders of the NBA Development League.
Johnson-Odom (55th overall pick) was acquired from the Dallas Mavericks on a draft-day deal acquisition. He made his NBA regular-season debut Friday night against the Golden State Warriors, playing the final 41 seconds.
While with the D-Fenders, Johnson-Odom will still count toward the Lakers’ 15-man roster limit. The team cannot add an additional player in his stead.
At 6-foot-2, Johnson-Odom is an undersized shooting guard with tremendous athleticism.
Coach Mike Brown, before his firing, noted that Johnson-Odom needed a lot more seasoning (both offensively and defensively) before he would be ready for regular minutes.
The D-Fenders begin their regular season Nov. 28.
