D-Fenders fall to Austin Spurs, despite presence of three Lakers

Despite three Lakers on the roster, the D-Fenders fell on Sunday night in El Segundo to the Austin Spurs, 116-105.

Earlier in the day, the Lakers assigned Ryan Kelly, Tarik Black and Anthony Brown to the team’s NBA Development League affiliate. None are regular rotation players for the Lakers.

Kelly led all scorers with 34 points, hitting 10 of 18 shots and 13 of 17 free throws. He also had nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Black reached a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, but fouled out with five turnovers.

Brown scored 10 with five points and four assists, hitting just four of 15 from the field.

Guard Michael Frazier, who went through training camp with the Lakers, scored 13 off the bench. Robert Upshaw, the undrafted center who was cut before the start of the season, did not play because of coach’s decision.

The Spurs, the affiliate of the San Antonio Spurs, were led by Keifer Sykes and reserve Cady Lalanne, who both scored 27 points.

The D-Fenders were only out-scored by a single point with Kelly on the floor. The Spurs generated a 10-point advantage over the 10 minutes Kelly was on the bench.

With the D-Fenders off until Friday, the trio of Lakers are likely to recalled in time to host the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday at Staples Center.
