Stanley Cup Final update: NBC TV ratings up for Kings-Rangers Game 5

The overnight ratings for Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Kings and the Rangers revealed a massive upset, so stunning it defied explanation.
Kidding aside, there was a better rating in Los Angeles (12.4) for the double-overtime thriller -- a 3-2 win by the Kings -- on Friday night than in Buffalo (9.2), a tried-and-true powerhouse in terms of hockey TV viewership.
It was the L.A. market’s second-best NHL rating on NBC or NBCSN, according to a network release on Saturday morning.
The Kings’ Cup-clinching effort in 2012 against the New Jersey Devils in Game 6 recorded a 13.6 rating in L.A.
Friday’s game was No. 1 among the top 10 markets, including New York (10.4), Buffalo, Boston (6.3) and Minneapolis-St. Paul (6.3).
The network said the Rangers-Kings game was the most watched Stanley Cup Final Game 5 in six years.
