Retro cabinet houses flat-screen TVs
DesignerJoe Wilkerson’s M21 Flat Panel shows the influence of 1950s television sets -- with, he adds, “maybe a little Jetsons mixed in.” The handsomely retro console is a welcome antidote to recent hide-the-box designs, reestablishing the TV as a piece of furniture. Standing on splayed dowel legs, the cabinetry of sustainable American black walnut includes a brick patterned grille lined with vintage speaker cloth. Compatible with LCD and plasma sets, the 42-inch screen model, shown here, sells for $3,600, and the larger 50-inch version is $3,950. Made-to-order in Wilkerson’s Lake View Terrace workshop, the M21 can be delivered in eight weeks, and custom sizing is available. (818) 890-3535 or www.wilkersonfurniture.com.
