A New England Autumn picture perfect
If you’re not autumning in New England, this photo book may be the next best thing. In “A New England Autumn,” all the roads are back roads. Ferenc Máté’s photos take you across six states, from boatyards to church-steepled hillsides.
Accompanying the photos are some of the most ruminative works of Frost, Longfellow, Thoreau and others. Elizabeth Bishop writes of the old fisherman scraping scales and leaving “sequins on his vest and on his thumb,” her reflections surrounded by photos of fishing villages, river rock and pumpkin-colored trees. Like fall itself, it ends all too soon. $39.95, Albatross Books, a division of W.W. Norton & Co., www.wwnorton.com.
