WHERE TO STAY

The restaurant is considered one of the best in the eastern Sierra; dinner entrees $20 to $42; simpler fare is served in the adjoining sports bar.
Convict Lake Campground, (760) 924-5500, https://www.reserveamerica.com, in the Inyo National Forest has campsites along Convict Creek. Call ahead or check online because the campground may be closed this fall for construction.
