Phoenix: JW Marriott resort offers $149 rooms, $50 daily credit

Phoenix heats up in summer, but maybe air-conditioning and pool fun can offset triple-digit heat. That and an inexpensive room. For $149 a night in summer at JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa, you can do a lot (or a little) at the resort and cash in on a $50 daily credit too.
The deal: The wow factor for the Family Fling & Swing package is all the extras, not the least of which is a $50 resort credit each day and no resort fee (usually $25 a day). Rooms start at $149 a night plus tax and include free Wi-Fi or Internet access and free parking; free golf (after noon) and tennis; free appetizer or dessert and free meals for kids 12 and younger with paid adult meal.

When: The offer is good for stays June 3-Sept. 5.
Tested: I checked availability and found a room from Aug. 31-Sept 4 (over Labor Day weekend) that would accommodate four (two double beds) for $149 plus tax. If you’re taking the kids, that includes spending time in a Lazy River pool, water slides, hiking, rock climbing and touring the city. Prices on the same room for the same date would cost $139 plus tax a night -- plus the $25 a night resort fee.
