U.S. crop production was up 11% in 1984.

Total production rebounded last year to an estimated $77.9 billion, up from $70.3 billion in 1983, when drought and government acreage programs cut harvests sharply. The Agriculture Department said that the 1984 crop value fell below the record of $82 billion in 1982. The corn harvest, a traditional leader, was worth more than $20.5 billion in 1984, or more than one-fourth of the total. In 1983, the value of corn produced was $13.5 billion, far below 1982’s record of more than $22 billion.
