Ethnic Balance on Scholar Teams
The fact that high school academic squads are not safe from the quota system bothers me. The students are already representing their school by being on the team. If they have the grade-point average, the SAT scores, and the desire to be on the team then they should be allowed to participate. Just because the board feels that the team must fill a specific quota, I feel that this is not a legitimate reason to turn qualified students away. The school’s ethnic diversity is represented already by their students’ involvement in sports and in the arts.
A student should not be denied the privilege of being on a team due to the fact that they have to fill a quota. The school should be proud of these students for what they have achieved rather than who they are.
