Buena Park : Decision Nears on Using School Site as Arts Center
- Share via
The site of the closed Sullivan school may officially switch hands in the next week.
Buena Park city officials are awaiting the Buena Park School District’s acceptance of a $3-million offer before a deadline next Monday to plunge ahead with plans that will convert part of the school into a cultural arts center, said Felise Acosta, the city’s community development manager.
In the meantime, the city has sent out requests for qualifications to about 50 developers who may have an interest in developing the 8.5-acre site on Melrose Avenue and Beach Boulevard, Acosta said.
Buena Park officials are considering using the land for a commercial and residential area in addition to a cultural arts center.
The city plans to raze most of the buildings, but retain the auditorium and classrooms now used for a community theater. A developer would then be contracted to decide how to use the rest of the land.
