Settlement of a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency complaint against the University of California for alleged violations on its Berkeley campus of federal PCB regulations was announced in San Francisco. The consent agreement called for UC to pay a $10,000 penalty, initiate quarterly inspections of transformers containing PCBs, mark all PCB items specified in the regulations, train appropriate campus personnel in handling PCBs and take other measures.
