There was none of the bickering or drama of last week’s City Council meeting when the council met this week. In fact, none of the council members or Mayor Barbara Doerr even mentioned the fireworks of last week that resulted in a walkout by three council members.
The controversy over how to interpret City Charter provisions involving appointments to city commissions--which inspired the walkout--was dealt with in a matter of seconds when the council voted to table the issue indefinitely. There was no discussion. Councilwoman Kay Horrell, who led the walkout last week, was absent this week because of injuries from a fall.
After the meeting, Councilman Archie Snow said the council is waiting to hear from the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office, which has been asked to investigate claims by the mayor that the council acted illegally when it made a commission appointment last month--claims the council members have denied.
