School trustees in East Palo Alto have voted to place security guards on the campus of Ravenswood Middle School, where separate shooting and stabbing incidents have taken place since March. Supt. Charlie Mae Knight, former head of the Lynwood school system, said the Ravenswood district is not seeking to hire just an “armed guard with a gun, but someone who is sensitive and trained to deal with youngsters.” Trustees are asking the state Board of Education for $50,000 to pay for the guards. A $200,000 grant from the Packard Foundation will pay for an 8-foot fence around the campus.
