The assistant superintendent of the Moorpark Unified School District has been named superintendent, effective Oct. 1.
Thomas G. Duffy, 40, was promoted Friday during a closed meeting of the Board of Education. He replaces Michael Slater, who has resigned to complete his doctoral degree at UC Santa Barbara.
Duffy, who will earn $69,462 in the first year of a four-year contract, said his main goal will be to find ways to finance the growing school district.
“There’s a tremendous need for money,” he said. “We need to be very creative and resourceful where there are few funds.”
Moorpark schools had 23% more students in the last school year than the year before, he said.
Duffy has a master’s degree in educational administration from Cal State Los Angeles and is working on his doctorate at USC.
