Action May Thwart Housing at Kennedy

The city and the Anaheim Union High School District could be at odds over a proposal to use part of the Kennedy High School campus for a housing development.
The school district, which supervises Kennedy High, has proposed that the property be leased for a residential project that would generate revenue for the school.
But that plan has angered some homeowners, who contend that such development would reduce open space. Some City Council members expressed support for that position at a session this week.
The council directed the city staff to draft revisions to the General Plan that would designate the school property as open space and forbid development.
City Manager Daniel E. Keen said that the General Plan currently “is not clear” on acceptable uses for the Kennedy property.
