School Board Seeks to Replace Trustee

LAGUNA BEACH — With trustee Karen Linden resigning July 1, the Laguna Beach Unified School District is seeking someone to fill her seat.
Candidates should submit a resume, letter of interest and statement of 400 words or less expressing why they want the position. Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. June 27. State law requires that the appointment be made by Aug. 1.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and live within the school district’s boundaries, which include part of Aliso Viejo.
In replacing Linden, who is moving out of the district, school board members had the option of either scheduling a special election or making the appointment themselves. To save money, trustees decided to make their own selection.
The board’s meetings are the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. In the past year, however, trustees have met more frequently to deal with financial and other problems.
Trustees receive no pay but are offered health-care benefits.
Applications should be submitted to the superintendent’s office, 550 Blumont St., Laguna Beach, CA 92651. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
Applicants will be interviewed by the board during public meetings that will be scheduled, depending on the need, on any or all of the following dates: July 7, 9 and 10.
Information: (714) 497-7700, Ext. 202.
