$100 million pledged to create nursing school

UC Davis has received a record $100-million pledge from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation to found a nursing school in Sacramento, the school announced Tuesday.
The school, which will be named the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, is designed to produce leaders in the field. The university plans to begin accepting students in master’s and doctoral programs in 2008.
The grant, which will be allocated over 11 years, is the largest gift received by UC Davis and one of the largest received by the University of California. The charitable foundation was established by Gordon Moore, the co-founder and former chief executive of Intel Corp., and his wife, Betty Moore, an advocate for patient care.
